Finished size
Q76in square

Notes
QIf using ric rac, soak it in water for at
least an hour, dry flat and press before
using (this prevents shrinkage when
washing the quilt later).
QRST = right sides together.
QWS = wrong side.
Q* Jo used a narrow binding but there
is enough fabric to cut your strips 2in
wide, if you prefer.

one side, alternating direction with
each row.

If using ric rac, lay it in position
on the edge of the quilt on two
(2) opposite sides and tack just inside
the in seam allowance. You can use
the machine to do this on a slightly
longer stitch, but be careful not to
gather up the fabric or trim. Then,
tack ric rac to the other two sides.

7

If you are using the patterned
fabric to make a flange, as Jo did,
fold the 2in strip in half, wrong

pins. Machine stitch around the raw
edges twice using a 1.5 stitch length,
approximately in in from the edge.

10

On the daisy centres, sew a
row of small running stitches
between the cut edge and the drawn
line (or approx. in outside the
drawn line), securing the start with a
knot but not the finishing end. Insert
the card template and gather the
thread to pull the fabric tight around
the card. Press well and carefully
remove the card.

sides together, press firmly and then
lay out in the same way as the ric rac
above with the raw edges laying on
the edge of the quilt. Tack just inside
the in seam allowance.

Add the borders in a clockwise
direction, as you would when
making a Log Cabin block. Take the
8 in x 60in border and add it to the
first side. Press towards the border.
Add the 8in x 68in borders to the
next two sides and finally the 8in x
76 in border (Fig 1).
