REVERSING TEMPLATES
Tocreatesomecurvedblocks,templatesneedto be usedstraightand
alsoin a reversed(reflected)format.Thisoccursmostoftenwitha block
madeupof fourunitsin a Four-patchlayout.Thehourglassblock
belowis anexample.Thetemplateis showninFig10A, butyoucan
seeinFig10Bthatthefinalblockcannotbe madebysimplyrotating
theunit90-degreeseachtime.Twounitsareneeded,onea mirrorof the
other(Fig10C). Thetwolowerunitsarea repeatof theuppertwo,but
rotated180-degrees(Fig10D). Creating a reversed template can be
donein variousways...

TECHNICALTIP
Whenpressingpatchwork
curves,theseamallowance
willusuallynaturally
choosetofallinone
direction.Presstheseam
allowancethisway,unless
theblockrequiresyouto
press in a certain way.

QDrawthetemplatetwice,oncestraightandoncereflected.Be
suretomarkthereflectedversionsoyoucanidentify it easily,
for example, ‘Reversed’ or ‘Rev’ or just R.

QUsejustonestraighttemplate,butflipit overbeforeusingit to
mark and cut the fabric. Mark the reverse side to identify it.

QIf youareabletoprintthetemplate,useonlyoneregular
templatebutsetyourprintertoreverseit asit prints.Todo
this,whengivingthecommandtoprint,goto‘SetUp’,then
‘Preferences’.Youshouldfindan‘Option’ or ‘More Options’
that will allow you to ‘Mirror Image’.
