withthelatticeblocks,thenyouwillbeableto completethisrowandaddit to
theotherthree.It’ssucha satisfyingfeelingto havethedesignquiltedandrows
stitchedtogetheras yougo.Bytheautumn,it willbeboundandonthebed
readyforsomecosynights!Thismonths’blockoriginatedas a KansasCityStar
blockpatternin itslongrunningnewspapercolumnof the1930s.Thisversion
appearedin 1941andmayhaveoriginallybeencalled‘PatrioticPolygon’.
It wassuggestedthatyoupieceit in redandblue,withwhiteas thebackground
andthecentre,hencethepatriotism.Thesubtitlewas‘Mother’sChoice’as it
wasindicatedthatthepatterncollectorwhohadcontributedthisblockpattern
fromhercollection,sharedthatit wasoneof hermother’sfavorites.It always
fascinatesmehownamesgetchangedandevolveas,whenI foundtheblockin a
MaggieMalonebook,shecalledit ‘Mother’sChoice2’ becausetherewasalready
anotherblockof thesamename,entitled‘Mother’sChoice1’.Withthisin mind,
I’lljustgowith‘Mother’sChoice’today!Takecarewhencuttingthefabrics,as
someof thepiecesneedto bereversed.It willhelpif youcanlayoutthepieces
as youcutthembecauseyouwillbeableto seequitequicklyif youhavemadea
mistake.Thisis a lovelyoneto stitch,andI alreadyhavenotesonlots of di erent
