The Week in Publishing

Russell Perreault, who was

executive director of publicity and

social media for Penguin Random

House’s Vintage Anchor imprint—

and who had been with the unit

for 25 years—died suddenly on

July 27. He was 52.

Jason Schneider, editorial

director for Skyhorse

Publishing, died July 26

after a long illness. He

was 44. At Skyhorse,

Schneider directed the

creation of the company’s

Racehorse Publishing and Racehorse

Publishing for Young Readers imprints.

Quad reported that sales fell 1.2% in

the quarter ended June 30 compared to

the second quarter last year, falling to

$1 billion. It had a net loss of $14.7 million

compared to earnings of $9.4 million in

2018’s second quarter. The earnings

report came roughly a week after Quad’s

planned purchase of LSC Communications

was terminated due to objections from

the Department of Justice.

New tariffs could be
coming September 1 on
books imported from China,
according to an announce-
ment from President Trump.
A little more than a month
ago, Trump suspended
plans to impose 25% tariffs
on a range of products,
including books. The new
10% tariffs on $300 billion
worth of goods imported
from China are in retalia-
tion for what Trump views
as China’s
broken
promises
made in
recent
trade talks.
