THE WETLANDS of the Gulf region are a
haven for water birds, both during migration
(when the area acts as a major pathway) and
also in winter. Talal Al Rahab captured this
image of a fl ock of Greater Flamingos
(Phoenicopterus roseus) early one morning
in Kuwait Bay using a DJI Mavic Pro drone.
Having surveyed the area with the drone,
taking care not to disturb the birds, he was
immediately struck by the contrast between
the fl ock and the dark background.
The image has been shortlisted in the
Birds in the Environment category of
Bird Photographer of the Year 2019.

Skylum debuts sky replacement tool
Skylum claims Luminar 4, set for release in the autumn, will be
the first photo editor to have a fully automatic Sky Replacement
tool, designed to save hours of editing. It will use artificial
intelligence to apply a new sky to an image in seconds. It works by
detecting not only the sky but also objects in the scene, removing
halos, artefacts and edges of transitions. Visit skylum.com.

Problems with Leica Q2 raw fi les
Reports are suggesting that Leica Q2 users are having problems
with unreadable raw format files. The issue seems to occur when
using the ‘continuous super speed’ drive mode, which offers 20fps
shooting. We’re hoping we can get our hands on a review sample
of the Q2 soon, so we can report back.
