home from the beach.
Volunteers have rescued three
affected animals in the area, after
they became weak enough to be
caught. The discs were removed
and the animals were released back
into the wild after they recovered.
The most recent one was named
Sir David, after Sir David Attenbor-
ough, whose Blue Planet II series
drew attention to plastic pollution.
The seal was sent back to the wild
in July, after three months in care.

rise in incidents involving seals.
There were 28 reports about seals
in 2018, compared to five in 2015.
These latest harrowing pictures
follow a string of recent incidents in
Norfolk, where many seals were
found trapped in plastics discs.

their necks have been spotted
on the UK coast, as the number
of animals affected by plastic
litter reaches an all-time high.
And two of the animals have been
seen stuck in fishing nets in Horsey,
Norfolk, in the past fortnight.
Getting trapped in plastic discs
left behind by beach-goers can kill
seals. As the animals grow, the discs
begin to cut into their flesh.
The wounds can become infected
and the rings can stop them
catching fish and swallowing.
It comes as the RSPCA reports a
22% rise in animals suffering due to
plastic litter. Incidents hit 579 in
