WATTS the GOSS

Here’s

an early

model...

Former Word presenter
Terry Christian called
Jo Whiley “terrible”
for snubbing Take That
before they made it.
The TV host described how
the Radio 2 DJ used to work as
the music booker for
the C4 Friday night
magazine show in the
90s – and failed to see
the Manchester
boyband’s appeal.
“Jo wouldn’t book
them,” he told
listeners at the BFI.
“The irony was the
following year when
they’d gone big, they
wouldn’t do The Word
because we snubbed them.”
Well, we’re sure she’s
regretted it ever since!

IT’S A
HAPPY
BIRTHDAY TO
POP QUEEN
MADGE! Last year
Madonna threw a
fabulous shindig in
Marrakech, but this
year’s celebrations
are more low-key as she is in
rehearsal for her Madame X tour.

THE
DATE IN
SEPTEMBER Charli
XCX’s upcoming
album Charli is out. I
can’t wait.

THE NUMBER OF DAYS
Reservoir Dog’s
Michael Madsen has
been sentenced to
jail after pleading no
contest to driving under
the influence (DUI).

The film of the British period drama
television series Downton Abbey is
set for release in the UK on
September 13, but before we see
what the Crawley family and their
servants have been up to, here is
some fun trivia about the show:

1

The series, written by Julian
Fellowes, was inspired by
American TV shows such as ER.

2

The house is just an
elaborate TV set.

3

Actors Elizabeth McGovern and
Hugh Bonneville, aka Lord and
Lady Grantham, had been ‘married’
before Downton.

4

Each episode cost a million
pounds to make.

Sewing Bee star
Patrick Grant has
revealed Strictly
Come Dancing host
Claudia Winkleman has asked
him to go on the show, but he
won’t because he doesn’t like the
fashion.
“Claudia and I are friends and
we have discussed it, but I have
my own business to run and
Strictly’s a big commitment,”
Patrick told me at the Fitzdares
Club
enclosure at
Goodwood.
“I’m sure
Claudia could
put a word in
for me if she’s
bribed, but I
am not sure.
“A n y wa y, I
couldn’t do
Strictly even if I wanted to
because I haven’t got time.
“Also I am so
fussy about the
costumes.
“I think I’d have a lot to say
about what I was wearing
because it’s what I do for a living.
“They tend not to have many
people from the fashion world on
there. They had Julien
Macdonald a couple of years ago,
who loved it. I sat next to him at
lunch not long afterwards and he
was like, ‘I really loved it but I
couldn’t remember the steps!’
“God bless him, so he just
went out there and went
f****** mad.”

Yet more Taylor chips

on Katy’s shoulder?

Katy Perry and Taylor
Swift fans never thought
they’d see peace between
the ladies – so they were
delighted when the pop
singers made up after their
five-year fall-out.
Katy even starred in Taylor’s video to
the single You Need To Calm Down.
But they may have gotten comfort-
able a little too soon. For they are set to
once again do battle – this time in the
charts, and there may be more Bad
Blood spilled.
Katy released her latest single, Small
Talk, last week, which debuted at
number eight to not much fanfare.
Disappointingly, after just nine days
in the US charts, it has slipped down to
number 78. Now she faces seeing her

one-time most fierce rival steal her
music thunder with the release of
Taylor’s eagerly awaited seventh studio
album’s title track, Lover.
It precedes the release of the album
itself which is out next week.
The song is an old-school romantic
ballad with a 60s’ vibe and
opens with: “We can leave the
Christmas lights up ’till January.
This is our place, we
made the rules.”
A music insider
says: “Katy used
to dominate the
music charts, but
her last album
Witness famously
flopped and a
previous track,
Never Really
Over, which was
promoted as her
comeback solo, just

fizzled out. Taylor seems to have had a
resurgence in popularity getting the
Vogue September issue cover and is
breaking more records.
“But Katy’s career is hardly in crisis
five albums in, and
she still has a huge
fanbase of
Katycats.
“However, while
she and Taylor
kissed and made
up, she is going to
be watching
Taylor’s turn in
the spotlight
with interest,
and her success
through gritted
teeth.”
Maybe a duet
is what’s really
needed here.

BUN FIGHT Katy stars in
Taylor’s video, but will it
be burgers at dawn?

IN NUMBERS

EDITED BY SARAH
ROBERTSON

I had to laugh at Nicole Appleton for
spotting that Cara Delevingne looked
just like her son Gene when they were
little kids. The supermodel, 27, posted
a photo of herself as a little girl
wearing a hat, pulling a stern face.
Quick as a flash, the All Saints
singer, 44, dug out a photo of Gene,
her 18-year-old son with Liam
Gallagher, 46, around the same age
and dressed similarly to Cara at
the time and captioned it:
“@caradelevingne posted a tbt
[Throwback Thursday] when she was
little. She looks just like my
@genegallagher.”
Jaime Winstone and Kate
Thornton also spotted the pair’s
likeness and agreed.
Gene has just launched his
modelling career, so let’s see if his
good looks match Cara’s success.

Lindsay Lohan has made
herself at home in Dubai
and Mykonos, but Down
Under may be her new
address. The actress has fallen in love
with Australia and is looking at
houses there.
A source says: “Lindsay loves the
laidback beach culture and the
people from working on The Masked
Singer Australia. She is keeping
Dubai and New York as her bases.
“But she likes the idea of
going for a chunk of time
as there are work
opportunities, so she is
looking at rentals.”
Could we be seeing her
in Neighbours?
