BEN MEE claims Burnley have proved
by keeping hold of James Tarkowski
that they can hang on to their best
players.
Leicester targeted Tarkowski to
replace Harry Maguire but shelved
their interest when they heard Burnley
wanted £50million for the 26-year-old
England defender.
In the past Burnley have had to sell
the likes of Kieran Trippier and Michael
Keane but Mee (right) is delighted
those days are over.
The Burnley skipper said: “We’re in a
great position financially. We’re not
under any pressure to sell any of the
players and that can only bode well for
us. There was a lot of speculation when
Maguire went to Manchester United
that Leicester would come in for Tarky.
“But, credit to the club, we’ve kept
hold of him. You don’t want your best
players to leave if you want to do well.
The way you do that is to keep hold of
your top players.”
Mee praised Tarkowski for remaining
focused on Burnley. “His focus was on
the club. He never once stepped out of
line,” he said.
