Sharp is pushing to start

CAHILL: I
COULD TAKE
NO MAUR
BY NEIL McLEMAN
GARY CAHILL has already
erased last season from his
memory as he prepares to
make his Crystal Palace debut.
The defender was frozen
out by former Chelsea
manager Maurizio Sarri and
made only one appearance
after November. And Palace
manager Roy Hodgson says the
player is “entitled to be hurt”.
Cahill (above), 33, left
Stamford Bridge on a free
transfer and has now reunited
with the former England
manager. Injuries to James
Tomkins and Mamadou Sakho
will see him play tomorrow.
And Cahill, who made only
two league appearances last
term, said: “Last season was
something I was not used to.
“It was something I never
want to get used to. I played a
heavy part in every season I
had been at that club, apart
from last year. So, for me, it was
a freak and it is erased out of
my memory already.
“It was a tough year – I’m not
going to lie. Sarri knew what I
could have brought if they
needed me. I was there, I
trained, and was ready to play.
The lads knew.”
Cahill played at the 2014
World Cup and Euro 2016 for
Hodgson’s England and
captained his national side.
The Eagles boss said: “He is
entitled to be hurt, but I sense a
hunger in him. He has made a
very good impact in training.”
