Less than a month later, the New
Mexico Department of Public Safety told
Epstein he was no longer required to
register as a sex offender with the state.
The investigation took into account
only a police report which indicated, the
authorities said, that his underage victim
in Florida was 17 – the age of consent in
New Mexico – although the girl whose
report launched the probe was 14.
The state’s Attorney General, Hector
Balderas, is now in contact with Epstein
survivors and has been forced to admit:
“New Mexico continues to lag behind the
rest of the country in strengthening
outdated and weak laws that fail to
protect our children from abuse. This is
a huge black-eye for our state.”

Anaya, with the Santa Fe
County Sheriff ’s Office, made
an unannounced visit to
Zorro that August to inter-
view Epstein as part of the
department’s determination
of his sex offender status.
While there, she noted his
assets – which included cars such as a
Hummer H2 and a huge SUV, and aircraft
including a Boeing 727, a Gulfstream
private jet and two helicopters, a Bell 407
and a Sikorsky S-76. Ms Anaya said: “I’vefor a private plane” on state land within
his lease. But when officials wanted to
send inspectors to approve his plans,
Epstein withdrew the request and built
a runway on land he owned outright.

bought in 2001 by fashion
designer Tom Ford, whose
name is in Epstein’s “little
black book” – the estate gave
the billionaire and his accom-
plices the perfect hideaway.

staff refused to answer the
intercom or allow access to the ranch.
