FERRARI GTO PROTECTED

A court in Bologna, Italy, has ruled
the Ferrari 250GTO to be a work
of art to stave off the possible
threat of reproduction examples.
The action was taken following
plans by a Modena company to
begin building replicas.

MATCHING CLASSICS SHOW

Around 600 vehicles attended
the 26th Matching Green Classic
& Sports Car Club Annual Show in
Essex on 7 July, from vintage cars
to military and light-commercial
machines. Attracting much
interest was Chris Hendeley’s
recently restored 1948 Allard K1
two-seater sports (above).

PARADE ON THE PROM

Tens of thousands of cars and
’bikes converged on the Great
Yarmouth seafront on 6-7 July for
the Wheels Festival, with both
sides of the Atlantic represented.
Spectators lined the promenade
to catch the long, varied parade.

JAGUAR XJ13 REBORN

Ecurie Ecosse has revealed its
new road-legal, Jaguar XJ13-
inspired LM69. With long tail and
quad-cam V12, it will be limited
to 25 examples, handbuilt and
finished in Ecurie Ecosse livery.
Its launch will be at the Concours
of Elegance at Hampton Court.

Garden party’s classic collection

A 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C-1750
scooped not one but two prizes at
the Chateau Impney Hill Climb
Concours d’Elegance on 13-14 July.
The Alfa picked up both the
People’s Choice and the Judges’
Choice awards to be crowned the
event’s overall winner.
The privately owned car has
been with its current keeper for
more than 45 years, and was
recently subjected to a nut-and-bolt

restoration. It gained a four-seater
touring body, and the owner hopes
to campaign it on hillclimbs.
The Alfa overcame competition
from four classes, split into 25-year
increments – highlights included a
one-of-two 1984 Jaguar XJ-S 3.6
with Burberry check-trimmed
cabin, and a Shell-liveried 1919
Ford Model T petrol tanker.
Tom Walker claimed the concur-
rent hillclimb FTD in a Lola T160.

Alfa sweeps Impney wins

It’s been a childhood favourite
for 40 years, and now a super-
sized version of Top Trumps will
star as the theme of this year’s
Lancaster Insurance Classic
Motor Show, with
Discovery, at the
NEC Birmingham
from 8-10
November.
Clubs and
exhibitors will
use the format
as the basis for
vehicle info
boards displaying
five key facts,
creating what organisers
describe as the biggest-ever
version of the game.
A special edition pack,
produced to celebrate the 35th
birthdays of both the NEC
Classic Motor Show and
Lancaster Insurance, will be
launched at the event.
