of the finest 1:43-scale pre-war subjects in recent
years for its ‘40000 series Exclusive cars’, including
a superb line of Bugattis. The latest is the sleek,
Corsica-bodied Type 57S roadster, chassis 57.531,
that was ordered new by Land Speed Record
legend Captain Sir Malcolm Campbell and painted
to match his Bluebird record cars and boats.
This subject has previously been tackled by
Western Models, but this new resin release better
captures the lines that Campbell himself reputedly
had a hand in styling. The cockpit and trim details
are up to Matrix’s usual high standards, though the
colour is possibly a touch too light and we’d like to
see Campbell’s distinctive badge bar fitted.
