Amy Davidson Sorkin (Comment, p. 31),
a staff writer, is a frequent contributor

D. A. Powell (Poem, p. 55) received the
2019 John Updike Award from the
American Academy of Arts and Let-
ters. He teaches at the University of San
Francisco.

Susan B. Glasser (“The Secretary of Trump,”
p. 50), a staff writer, was previously the
editor-in-chief of Foreign Policy. She will
publish a biography of former Secretary
of State James Baker, written with her
husband, Peter Baker, in 2020.

Ian Frazier (“Old Hatreds,” p. 36) most
recently published “Hogs Wild: Se-
lected Reporting Pieces.” In February,
he was elected to the American Acad-
emy of Arts and Letters.

Edward Steed (Cover) has contributed
cartoons to The New Yorker since 2013.

Deborah Garrison (Poem, p. 72) is the
author of the poetry collections “A
Working Girl Can’t Win” and “The
Second Child.”

Caleb Crain (A Critic at Large, p. 76)

“Overthrow” comes out this month.
