What the 2070 should have been
from the start.

iven its name,
you’d assume the
RTX 2070 Super
has a lot in
common with its non-
Super sibling, but
actually it has a lot more
in common with the RTX- Where the RTX
2070 uses the TU106 GPU,
the Super version comes
with a lite version of the
TU104 GPU as found in
the RTX 2080. This means
more Cuda, RT and Tensor
cores (2,304, 26 and 288
for the 2070 vs 2,560, 40
and 320 for the 2070
Super).
As expected, the 2070
Super Founder’s Edition
we’re testing here is
physically the same as the
RTX 2080 FE, though it
comes with a nice mirror
effect on the face. We were
very impressed with the
step forward that Nvidia
made with the RTX FE
coolers and we’re sticking
with that opinion here. In
operation, the card
remains quiet without
compromising much on
temperatures.
The RTX 2070 Super
offers three DP 1.4
connectors, a single HDMI
2.0b, and a VirtualLink
Type-C USB port.
The card performs very
well. Finally it gets close to
the performance of the GTX
1080 Ti while going a long
way towards bridging the
gap to the RTX 2080. More
importantly, it sees off the
potential challenge of the
RX 5700 XT, where the
vanilla 2070 would have
been vulnerable.
The RTX 2070 Super
should have been named
the 2070 Ti, but whatever
it’s called, it’s the best
performing card and still
the best featured card in
this price range, which
is admittedly, quite high

XT but it remains a pricey

RTX 2060 Super
Entry level RTX just got better.

he RTX 2060 Super
retains the TU106
GPU of the vanilla
RTX 2060, but
unlocks more of its cores
and goes a long way to
minimising the
performance gap to the
RTX 2070. Whereas the
2060 has 1920 Cuda cores,
240 Tensor cores and 30
RT cores, the Super
increases these counts up
to 2176, 272 and 34
respectively. Nvidia has
also addressed one of the
more visible
shortcomings of the RTX
2060 by increasing the
amount of VR AM on the
Super to 8GB, instead of
the original 6GB.
The 2060 Super is
otherwise identical to the

strong point of the
Founder’s Edition we have
for review. There’s no
noisy blower cooler here.
The TDP of the card has
taken a small jump from
160W to 175W, but
thankfully this has next to
no impact on the cooling
capabilities of the
impressive FE cooler.
The RTX 2060 Super
retains the 2060’s display
output configuration with
two DP 1.4 connectors, a
single HDMI 2.0b,
Dual-link DVI and a
Virtual Link Type-C USB
port.
Nvidia has positioned
the card very well as it
keeps its nose in front of
the R X 5700, but cannot
beat the XT. Of course
Navi doesn’t have some of
the key technologies like
ray tracing and variable
rate shading which add
value.
The RTX 2060 is a
welcome refresh of the
2060, but its weakness
remains its high pricing.
$690 is going to deter a lot
