A gorgonian coral fan with a brown
crinoid – a feathery starfish that has
climbed the fan for a better vantage
point – grows in Vatu-i-Ra Passage,
Bligh Water, Fiji. Overhangs and
caverns are home to filter-feeding
species like these because they don’t
have to compete with reef-building
corals that grow in sunnier areas.
