ALL-NEW PHOTOS


As Apple has been highlighting through
its new Shot on iPhone XS promotional
campaign, iPhone is great for photography. But
the Photos app, where your photographs are
stored, has struggled to live up to the superior
user experience on apps like Google Photos and
Dropbox. In iOS 13, that changes, as Apple now
puts your best photos front and center so you
can relive your memories at a glance. As well as
being able to view all of your photos, you can
now organize by day, month, and year.


Improved AI means clutter - such as screenshots,
duplicate images and more - are hidden from
view, whilst muted Live Photos and videos play
as you scroll, bringing your photo library to life
for the first time. Under the new All tab, Apple
highlights titles like location, concert performer,
holiday, and more, whilst a new feature lets
you see photos of a person on their birthday
if you’ve assigned birthdays to them, and a
dedicated album for screen recordings, finally
exists, following the introduction of the long-
awaited feature last year in iOS 12.


Editing has been overhauled in iOS 13, too, with
editing tools front and center along with new
slider wheels. You can now tap each edit to see
what the photo would look like before and after,
and you can adjust the intensity of the pre-
set filters like Vivid or Noir, whilst new editing
tools for vibrance, white balance, sharpness,
definition, and noise level all give you more out-
of-the-box power, making photo editing apps a
thing of the past for everyday users.
