hfm COVERSTORY

“I think they love it,” she laughs. “I’ve always wanted
to get ‘Made in Germany’ somewhere on me, but
I didn’t know where.
“I’m not sure if it has anything to do with my dad
being ex-military, but I was like, ‘Let me get a stamp’.
I wanted to let everyone know that I was repackaged
and shipped to South Carolina when I was little –
and was stamped in Germany,” she laughs. “I
honestly wish I had actually gotten tattooed in
Germany, but I knew a good tattooist here in LA, so...”
Growing up with three brothers, she kept up with
the boys. “Our whole family were athletic and I
played lots of sports like baseball and volleyball. At
school my coach made me choose between volleyball
and modelling. I didn’t want to pick because the
exercise kept me in shape for work, but I did in the
end and I’m glad I chose the right one.”
She still really loves sports but avoids team games
that might give her scratches and bruises. “I’m not
able to do so much of the fun tumble stuff as I’d
like to. But I’m very big on being outdoors. I’ll go to
the gym if I’m in there with a trainer, which makes it
quick and easy, if not
I like hiking with Philip,
we also live together,
and we take our dog
Caine on a three-mile
walk each morning.
“I live in the hills so
it’s just ridiculous how
much my thighs kill
afterwards. Also, I
occasionally jump into
a Pilates class. I really
do try to do something
workout-related for 30
minutes every day.
“Then throughout
the day I might do
squats or explosive
squats. Something
to keep my heart rate going and keep me pumped
up,” she tells us, giggling at the thought.
“Philip and me will say, ‘Every time you go to the
kitchen do squats before you grab whatever you are
going to the fridge for’ – it’s also very funny to watch.
“Either that, or you can do them while you’re
brushing your teeth. There are so many times you
can go ahead and knock it out. A lot of my friends
that are moms don’t have time to go to the gym, so
they hold their baby rocking them to sleep doing
squats instead of bouncing up and down. Or you
can play ‘flying’ your kid over your head through
the air, you have to be very careful, but...”
And the squats don’t stop there; she starts to
describe how her friend singer Kelly Rowland has
taught her a useful little trick. “There are workouts
you can even do on a plane. I get up and do squats in
the little kitchen area. Or I’ll try to find somewhere
that I can do an elevated push up. Anything that
might help,” she is now laughing with us.
“Or if I have a lay-flat bed – you might see me do
crunches on the bed. I’ve also pulled out my resistance
bands on a plane before,” she continues to giggle.

Jasmine explains there is good reason behind
going to these levels. “Sometimes I will be travelling
from LA to Europe to do a bikini shoot and I might
land the same day – and not looking the same as
when I took off. I also really watch my food and
water intake while travelling. You’ve gotta do what
you’ve gotta do,” she says, before admitting that
after a shoot she often reaches for the pasta.
One of her biggest career highlights, she tells
us, was being shot for Sports Illustrated magazine.
“I’ve actually just recently started hanging out with
Danielle Herrington, who is their 2018 cover model,
I met her on a shoot. We went to Coachella together,
we did Superbowl together – I don’t know what it
is with this girl but we immediately meshed.
“We became best friends immediately. I reached
out to the Sports Illustrated team and said, ‘Thank
you so much for having our shoot days cross paths’,
because you shoot for a whole day and then a new
girl comes the next, you never usually meet other
models when shooting, it was really cool that we
ended up meeting and became best friends.”
Jasmine is also friends
with actress Shay Mitchell
and models Lily Aldridge
and Riley Montana. “I’m
focused on doing jobs that
I believe in and that
mean something to me, but
it’s also great to get a job that
allows you to meet amazing
people – beautiful women
that empower each other and
push each other to do better.
“Some are moms, some
are wives, there are women
of different shapes and sizes

  • we all come together and
    find a common ground.
It’s nice to work with so
    many women that are after
the same goal but not in competition.”
Keeping the positive vibes coming, she also
stresses how happy she is exactly where she is now.
“I obviously want to do better than I am, but I’m
very pleased with all of the work and all the doors
that have been opening – I’m in a very good position
at the moment. I feel really great about everything.”
When she turns up to her cover shoot (with
BFF Philip in tow) she’s dressed casually in a
Champion hoody, a pair of Gymshark leggings and
Balenciaga trainers. At lunch she tells us she’s not
a salad girl and orders teriyaki salmon and rice.
We ask her a question she must be tired of
answering, which is the secret behind a successful
Instagram post. “I honestly don’t know. But
yesterday I was really excited to post something
that would get my followers talking – I actually had
a message from my mum as I woke up this morning
saying, ‘You got the internet talking yesterday!’.
“It was an image of me with a very bold orange
eye by Hung, who is a make-up artist in New York
(@hungvanngo). He is amazing. I’m looking at
the photo now and it has had almost 150,000 „
