“I also like to put stuff up
with either a sassy or fun
comment – something that’s
nothing to do with the photo
that will make people laugh
and think, ‘What’s she writing
about, why is it always so crazy?’.
“Yesterday I posted
something to see if people
were reading and paying
attention – because so many
people don’t. I could upload
a beautiful photo and the
most horrendous caption.
“I also pick things I know
people want to see, so if it’s
summertime, I will post a
beautiful summer make-up
shot – you need to keep up
with what’s going on. I like
to show that normal everyday life can sometimes
be done in a glamorous way, but also nitty-gritty- in a way someone from back home might do.
It’s really about showing that balance.”
Right back at the beginning, when Jasmine first
came up with the Golden Barbie handle with her
sister, what was the first thing she posted? “I still
have my first one on there, and I’ll never remove it.
It’s so funny; it’s actually a group of friends and me
at an amusement park. They had randomly been
talking about Instagram, and were like, ‘Hey, we’re
using this app, you can take your photos on it and
change the filters and it’s really easy’.
“So we took our group photo in June 2011 and
that ended up being my first Instagram post. That’s
where it started and the followers started rolling in.”
QUICK-FIRE QUESTIONS
What’s the best thing about living in LA?
“Being able to jump in my car and drive
around. Also, being with my dogs and my
friends. I just love being outside.”
What breed is your dog?
“He’s a pit-bull labrador mix and also has
some dalmatian in him. He’s an all-white big
boy weighing about 60lb. He has a lot of
energy. I also have two French bulldogs and
he tries to act like them – thinking he’s a very
small dog and can just jump on your lap.”
What’s your favourite film?
“Breakfast at Tiffany’s. I like old movies, old
music, old everything.”
Where did you last holiday?
“That’s a hard one, it’s been a while. I really
can’t think of where. It’s been over a year, I
was just trying to think where I’d like to go,
so I think that might be the better question.”
So, where would you like to go?
“That too, I don’t know [laughs]. Somewhere
tropical for sure. Maybe the Maldives as I’ve never
been there. I want to go somewhere hot so I cantan and relax. Eventually, I want to go to Australia.”
Do you have a guilty pleasure?
“Right now it’s Coca-Cola. I have actually just put on
my Instagram that I’m going to stop drinking soda:
the ‘no soda challenge’. I don’t drink coffee so it’s
my immediate fix for caffeine in the morning. But
it’s so terrible for you and your teeth. My friends and
me are all trying to give up something for a while. So
that would be my guilty pleasure and, honestly, pasta.”
What’s your favourite pasta?
“Oh my God, the hotel I stay in Milan has the
best spaghetti ever – it’s a Bolognese. Every time
I go there they say, ‘Do you want your spaghetti?’.
And I’m like, ‘Yes please!’.”
And what’s next for you?
“I like doing TV hosting and being able to
interview other people, use my voice – get down
to the core of what goes on, from behind the
scenes of a fashion show or what it really takes
to put together a campaign or photoshoot.
Whatever the case may be, I really love being
in front of the camera and take a different route,
which branches towards acting a little bit more.
So, hopefully, that work will lead to a movie or
