Q&A

NELLA

NGINGO

One of the most in-demand models at
LFW – and it seems London left an
impression on new girl Nella, too

How tiring is fashion week for you?
LFW was pretty taxing as I started
straight after I landed from New
York – no time to drop off your
luggage or deal with jet-lag, I had
to shower at the Premier offices.
The castings are the most tiring
part because it takes so long to
travel from A to B. Not to mention
the fittings and the waiting times.
I was so busy running around, I’d
sometimes forget to eat. This was
my first fashion week so I know in
time I will find a way to manage
everything and improve. But
I must admit, being this busy
gives me such a rush... I love it.
Your favourite LFW show?
Mary Katrantzou. I loved the vibe,
from the casting to the fitting to
the show. The show’s creative
director was Jenke Tailly – I
absolutely love him and his vision.
I loved the collection and the way
Mary played with colour and
prints. I felt so badass and sexy.
What are your beauty essentials
during fashion week?
I shave my head once a week and
use oil on my hair every day. I
always pack my Ellis Faas Skin Veil
foundation, just in case the make-up
artists don’t have the right shade
for me. Thankfully that doesn’t
happen very often any more. I love
the whole line which is vegan,
cruelty-free and feels very light on
my face. I also eat a full plant-based
diet and drink plenty of water to
keep my skin glowing.

TIMELINE OF A TREND

Val Garland conceived the
infamous ‘snogged lip' –
a la Courtney Love – for
Preen’s AW17 show, below

Terry Barber created a
marginally tidier pout for
Marco de Vincenzo SS18,
dubbed ‘ketchup-stained lips’

At Oscar de la Renta AW19
nude lipstick was dabbed
around the edges for
“a faded, vintage feel”

The following year, at the
Koché SS19 show, we
spotted ‘la bouche blurred’
in a muted, matte finish
