Art’Competitionforprimaryschoolshasclosed.
ArtworkswillbeexhibitedatHawkesbury
CentralLibraryduringLocalGovernmentWeek
untilAugust4.
Waste2 Artfocuseson‘reuse,reduce,
recycle’,whicharethe3Rsofthewaste
hierarchy,tospecificallyshowhowstudentscan
givewastea newpurposebytransformingit
intoa creativeartwork.
ThroughWaste2 Art,Councilhopesto
encouragestudentstoreduce,reuseand
recyclewaste.
Studentsareinvitedtocreatea uniqueand
individualartworkthatis differentfromtheir
classmates’artworks.
Theartworkmaybeeither2Dor3Dandmust
followthecompetitionguidelinesintermsof
size:3DArtworkmustbewithin20cm³or2D
artworkmustbenolargerthan20cmx 20cm.
Allentrantswillreceivea certificateto
recognisetheireffortsincreatingtheirartwork
andfortheirparticipation.Studentswillbe
judgedasperStages1, 2 and3 (i.e.Stage1 =
YearsK to2, Stage2 = Years3 to4, orStage 3
= Years5 to6)andfourprizeswillbeawarded
perStage.

MemorialSportsStaroftheYearAwardsfor

themonthofMayhavebeenannouncedby
LithgowCityCouncil.
MayorofLithgow,CouncillorRayThompson
announcedLithgowDistrictNetballunder14’s
RepresentativeTeam(Netball)asthewinnerof
theJuniorAwardforMay2019.
InMaytheteamtravelledtoParkesto
competeintheParkesandDistrictNetball
AssociationsAnnualCarnival,thegirlsplayed
sixcarnivalgamescomingawaywith“Runners
Up”intheseconddivision(under14’s)forthe
day,outoftheseventeamsinthatagedivision.

MUSICFORALL
WinterMagicCreativityWinterMagicreturned
withallthecolourandvibrancyofthepast.
Noparade,buttheaudiencewasdefinitely
entertainedbya fabulouslineupofmusicians,
artistsandstreetperformers,includingthose
fromKatoombaHighSchool.
Thejazzandconcertbandopenedthefestival
andwarmedtheaudienceona stunningbut
coldmorning,thetalentedAkiraandMatthias
playedattheAvalon,andBreathingUnderwater
withAuroraLi,enchantedtheaudiencewith
theiruniquesoundandability.

UNYOUTHNATIONAL
SchoolCaptainatJamesSheahanCatholic
Highschool,MatthewBrown,attendedtheUN
YouthStateConference.
Hewasselectedasoneofninestudentsfrom
acrossNSWtorepresentthestateattheUnited

NationsYouthNationalConferenceheldinthe
firstweekoftheJulyschoolholidays.
TheUNYouthNationalConferencewillbring
togetherover 100 exceptionalyoungpeople
fromacrossAustraliaandtheAsia-Pacificto
discussa diverserangeofinternationaland
localissues.

NAIDOCWEEK
StudentsatStColumba’sCatholicCollege,
Springwood,observedNAIDOCWeek.NAIDOC
weekcelebratesthehistory,cultureand
achievementsofAboriginalandTorresStrait
Islanderpeoples.
Thisyear’sthemeof‘Voice.Treaty.Truth,
Let’sworktogetherfora sharedfuture’was
highlightedinstudentfacilitatedactivitiesthat
wereheldattheCollegethisweek.
Studentscametogethertopaintand
decoratenativegumleaves,shapingthem
intothesebeautifulReconciliationWreaths
reflectingthemesofrelationship,acceptance,
equalityandunity.
A colourfulMuftiDaywasheldtoraisemoney
forTheIndigenousLiteracyFoundation.

DEBATECHAMPS
TheHawkesburyHighSchoolStage4 debating
teamparticipatedinRound1 ofthePremiers
DebatingChallengeagainstCranebrookHigh
School.Thegirlssucceededinwinningtheir
firstdebate.CongratulationstoourStage 4
debators- Charlotte,Zara,HopeandKaitlyn.
