o matter what time of year Bathurst
is an ideal destination, but there is
something extra special in Spring
when the city is full of colour with
n bloom in parks and gardens and the
warming up again and busy with events.
Take a walk through historic Kings Parade
where the imposing War Memorial Carillon is
flanked on either side by the Boer War Memorial
and the Evans Memorial, and beds of brightly
coloured flowers line the pathways. It’s a
beautiful place to sit and take in the scenery
or picnic on the lawns. Behind the magnificent
Courthouse, experience the tranquillity of
Machattie Park where you can relax and watch

the world go by, meander through the fernery
or enjoy a picnic on the grass. Download the
free ‘Bathurst – Step Beyond’ App from the App
Store or Google Play and be guided through
the heritage of these special places (and much
more). Discover some of Bathurst’s amazing
public artworks starting near the Macquarie
River where the huge sandstone sculpture
‘Conversation’ dominates the space. An amazing
stainless steel and stained glass kite that soars
between the two floors can be seen in the
Memorial Entertainment Centre and a visit to
Bathurst Regional Art Gallery or to the T.Arts
Gallery will delight all art lovers with exceptional
ever changing exhibitions including from the

amazing artists of the Bathurst region. Spring is
also a time for events in the Bathurst region. The
second weekend in October sees the city host
the epic Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 – the
biggest single event in regional NSW! Or thrill to
the beauty of nature instead, with the Bathurst
Spring Spectacular over the weekend of 26-27
October when 10 of the region’s finest historic
gardens are on show. And after a day’s delight in
the gardens, treat yourself to the public tasting
night of the National Cool Climate Wine Show
of 26 October. There is something for everyone
in the Bathurst region. Begin your journey at the
Bathurst Visitor Information Centre., 1 Kendall Av,
Bathurst. Ph: 02 6332 1444.
