mountain retreat for John R.
Fairfax, Mount Victoria Manor
continues to reflect the grandeur of
he late 1800s and early 1900s.

earliest and original guest houses in the Blue
Mountains, boasting.
After Fairfax’s passing, the property was
leased out to George Aitken in 1883 who
converted the home into a guest house and
used it briefly to serve as a school in 1855.
The property was then sold on to Mr G.H.
Cooper, who obtained a hotel license for the
premises and opened “Blue Mountains Manor
House” the Easter week of 1887.
For the next eight years, the property
underwent many alterations to create a glorious
tourist hotel. Mr Cooper changed the properties
name to The Grand Hotel, in which it was then
later on referred to as Cooper’s Grand Hotel,
which remained so until 1966.
