TRAVEL BOARD_
Red Paddle Co 9’6
Compact Inflatable SUP

Packable paddle boards are having their moment

  • but only Red Paddle Co has a full-sized design
that folds across both length and width, so it
packs down to half the size of others. A new
weaving process creates a high-tensile thread
matrix at the core of the board, a strong outer
layer, and tensile quad stringer-system, so it
remains as rigid when inflated as the rest of the
range. Its backpack has also been engineered
with lumbar support to distribute weight evenly
    across the shoulders. £1,299 redpaddleco.com

ROOM WITH A VIEW_
Tent-Box Hard Shell Roof Tent (previous page)

This sleeping pod has space for two, while the super-
strong fibreglass and aluminium shell weighs a mere
64.5kg, meaning it can be mounted on most vehicles
with two cross-bars. The fabric is made from 320gsm
rip-stop poly-cotton canvas with an external PU
coating, so even sideways rain will bounce off. To
pitch, just unlatch and let the air-assisted struts do
their thing (it takes about 30 seconds). A 6cm-thick
high-density memory foam mattress takes care
of your comfort. Ideal for wild campers who want the
ability to pitch up anywhere. £ 1,750 tent-box.com

OFF-ROAD TECH_
2019 Land Rover Discovery Sport (previous page)

Land Rover’s latest does not scrimp on the toys:
inside, the seating has been redesigned, LR’s Touch
Pro infotainment system comes as standard – and
now works with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

  • and the smart rear-view mirror can, at the flick of a
switch, become an HD screen displaying feed from a
rear-facing camera. Borrowing architecture from the
Evoque results in electrified powertrains, including a
48V mild-hybrid system. Top of the line is the P250
    MHE, with 246bhp giving 0-100kph in 7.1 seconds – a
    plug-in hybrid is planned. From £31,575 landrover.co.uk

AQUA VISION_
Wildhorn Outfitters
Seaview 180°

Although its crossed,
elasticated textile straps
feel a bit unusual at first,
this mask is easy to put on
and doesn’t pull at long hair.
The breathing system uses
two chambers to separate
inhaled air from exhaled CO 2 ,
while four intake valves keep
plenty of fresh air inside the
mask, which in turn keeps
things fog-free. Unlike most
full-face masks, the air pipe
here is built into the side (like
in traditional snorkelling). The
wide, flat window provides
a clear 180-degree view. 9/10

COMPACT SCUBA_
Subea
Easybreath

This mask comes in eight
colours and three sizes – XS,
S/M and M/L – so be sure to
measure up before buying. We
opted for an S/M, which felt
rather tight, but the silicon
skirt was still comfortable
and enabled the mask to
seal properly and not leak.
(It did still fog up, though.)
The purge valve at the bottom
of the mask means it can be
drained of any water ingress
without having to take it off.
Breathing in it, though, did not
feel as natural or effortless
as with the Seaview 180°.

MOBILE MOVIES_
Nebula Capsule II

The new Nebula Capsule projector has gained a little bulk,
so while it’s now larger than a drink can, it packs in greater
resolution – 720p (1,280 x 720) on a 100in screen – and 8W
of audio output. At 15cm tall and 8cm wide, it’s still nicely
compact – WIRED carried it around for a week without
noticing it was in the bottom of the rucksack. We watched
films and YouTube videos inside our tent using Chromecast
and a plugged-in MacBook (via HDMI or USB-C), but it also
has Android TV 9.0 built in, with Google Assistant voice
control and all the usability that affords, plus compatibility
with more than 3,600 media apps. £599 selfridges.com
