Viñales was the only rider close, just
0.1-second back, and he didn't have to deal
with post-surgical recovery over race distance.
“At Mugello we made some positive steps for-
ward. Now I’m pushing in the way I know I can,”
Viñales said.
Rins was third after making his way
through Q1, a big improvement over previ-
ous qualifying attempts. “It’s a privilege to be
here,” he said after earning only his second pre-
mier-class front-row. Marquez was off the front
row for the first time in 2019 but quietly confi-
dent he could run at the front anyway. Joan Mir
on the second ECSTAR Suzuki impressed with
fifth, with LCR Honda’s Cal Crutchlow rescuing
sixth after a disastrous weekend right up until
qualifying started.
Mission Winnow Ducati’s Danilo Petrucci
was seventh, the first of the Ducati riders and
struggling to deal with decreased grip in the af-
ternoon heat. LCR Honda’s Takaaki Nakagami,
Petronas Yamaha's Franco Morbidelli, and Mill-
er rounded out the top-10.
