Lorenzo Injured Again

Just when it appeared Jorge
Lorenzo had hit rock-bottom, the
Honda RC213V found a new way
to spit him off. Lorenzo arrived in
the Netherlands carrying injuries
from a frightening 120 mph fall
at the post-race test at Barcelona,
then was fl ung face down into the
gravel in a sickening crash early
in practice, fracturing his T6 and
T8 vertebrae. “We’re not starting

to get worried,” said team boss Al-
berto Puig of Lorenzo’s struggles.
“We are worried.” Teammate Marc
Marquez said the crash “showed
we don’t have the easiest bike to
ride, but we’re still leading the
championship. Every time (he)
pushes he crashes.” Lorenzo was
fi tted with a back brace that must
remain in place for weeks, and
faced a fi ght against time to be fi t
for the 10th round of the year in
Czech Republic.

Zarco Down in the Dumps

On Sunday evening, the con-
trast between KTM’s MotoGP fac-
tory riders acted as a snapshot of
their seasons. Pol Espargaró had
just battled his way to 11th place,
a feat in itself after injuring his
right hand 13 days earlier in a
crash while testing. Nothing was
broken but the pain was real; on
Friday he expressed doubts about
being able to race.
