E

van Lamb remembers very
clearly his first ride on a
proper gas-powered bike. He
was four years old, and he'd putt-
ed around on a pocket bike, but
this was the first time he was on
a larger machine. He got it going,
but then...
"I whiskey-throttled it," said
Lamb. The ensuing crash did little
to dampen his enthusiasm. Lamb
was quickly on the track, then on
the grid, then on the podium.
Evan Lamb's father, Jason,
wanted to ride, and decided that
riding mini road racing bikes was
the path he wanted to pursue.
MotoGP was on at the house all
the time, and Evan watched reli-
giously, and wanted to emulate his

favorite riders. So once he got the
hang of the Yamaha PW50, Evan
and his dad started visiting the
kart track at Willow Springs, just
putting in laps and getting more
comfortable with riding a motorcy-
cle at speed.
Soon enough Evan Lamb was
ready to race. He joined the M1GP
series and entered a race event
on the Horse Thief Mile track at
Willow Springs in October 2017.
Quickly, he discovered the highs
and lows of racing.
"I won my first one. I also
crashed really hard... because
someone hit me," Lamb said.
Again, it didn't slow him
down a bit. Lamb rides a lot, gain-
ing seat time on his current ride, a
Metrakit MiniGP 50. It's a bike he
likes a lot, compared to his previ-
ous rides. "The Metrakit turns a lot
better, and it's faster. And faster is
better," Evan says. And he knows
that seat time is important at this
point. He's done two-hour enduro
races with M1GP, and recent-
ly competed in a 12-hour event
staged by the organization on the
kart track at Willow Springs.
The best part of racing? Most
racers can relate to Evan Lamb's
response. "The adrenaline. The
thrills," he said.

TOMORROW’S ROAD RACING
CHAMPIONS MAY ALREADY BE RACING
ON TRACKS ACROSS NORTH AMERICA,
HONING THE SKILLS THAT COULD ONE
DAY CARRY THEM TO THE TOP.
