Also,if you’veeverdrivenanL5Pyoumaynoticetheslow
responsetothrottlepedalinput.Forwhateverreason,the
GMengineershavecreateda bitofa delayinwhathap-
penswithyourfootandsoontheenginereactstoit.Even
throughthetruckshavegobsofpowerontap,whenleav-
inga stoplightwitha heavyload,youmaynoticesome
hesitationfromthetruckbeforeyoureallystarttofeel
that.TheguysatEdgeProductshavebeenintheengine
tuninggamejustaboutaslongorlongerthananybody
andwantedtohelpthoseownersfedupwiththe‘dead
pedal’feeling.

TheAmp’dThrottleBoosteris theireasyfix,andjustabout
anyonecaninstallinlessthan 20 minuteswithnotools
required.Bestofall,it willcompletelyremovethatdead
pedalfeelingwithoutactuallytouchingthetruck’sECM
oraffectingyourfactorywarranty.TheAmp’dmodule
justadjuststhevehiclespedalpositionsensortobetter
controlenginefuelingbyremappingthethrottlepedal
range.You’llhavetheoptionofthreedifferentsensitivity
levelssotheenginewillreactsoonertothrottleinputand
getyouintothepowercurvesooner.So,whileit won’tin-
creasehorsepower,you’llgettousewhatpoweryouhave
whenyouaskforit—notwhenGM’sengineersthought
you’dwantit.

Now,ontoanotherissue:theeyesoreGMcallsa tailpipe.
Whiletheventedtipis a necessityontheseemissions-
equippedtrucks,whyshouldyoubeforcedtodrivearound
witha trumpetstickingoutfromundertherearbumper?
Sure,wetotallyunderstandwhytheexhaustoutletneeds
tobecooledbytheoutsideambientairbeforeit actually
exitstheexhaustsystem,butyouknewtheaftermarket

wouldhavesomebetter-lookingoptionsfortheL5P,and
thesingle-sideexit,dual-5-inch-tipfromMBRPwasjust
theticketforthis 2017 Denali.

MBRP’sProSeriesexhaustis constructedofT304stain-
lesssteelforyearsofdurabilityandstylishlooks.This
systemwilloutlastthefactoryexhaustwhilebeingeasy
tocleanandkeeplookingniceeveninwinterclimates.
OntheL5Ptrucks,theDPF-Backsystemis simpleto
install,withthetoughestpartofthejobbeingcuttingthe
factorysystemjustbehindtheDPFsothenewtailpipe
canbeslidonandclampedintoplace.Everythingfitlike
factoryandlinedupperfectlywiththefactoryhangersand
exhaustsensors.Thisparticularkitincludedtwo5-inch,
polishedstainlesstipsthatwillmountside-by-sideunder
thepassengerrearfender.Withtheventedoutletpipe,
theexhaustexittemperaturesarestillreducedtoa safe
range,andthepolishedtipslookincredibleinplaceofthe
factory5-inchtrumpet.

Onthisparticulartruck,whichis usedprimarilyfortowing
a large,38-ftRVfifthwheelthroughthewesternmoun-
tains,thequickerthrottleresponseintheAmp’dmodule
helpsgetintothattorquebandsooner,makingpassing
onthefreewaya breezeandleavinga stopsignloadeda
littlemoreresponsive.WhiletheMBRPsystemwasdone
moreforcosmeticreasonsthananythingelse,it is notable
thatthenewtipplacementworkedoutbetterwiththe
hitch-mountedmudflapstheownerrunswhiletowing,
sincethefactorytailpipewasdumpingatthebumper
andhadactuallyburnedthroughtherightrearflap.The
dual5-inchexitdoesreallyimprovethelookandstance
ofthetruck,goingwellwiththeotherchromestyling
cuesonthisDenali.Thebestparttothesepartsthough?
Everythingwasinstalledinlessthananhour—ina home
garage—withnothingmorethanbasichandtoolsanda
Sawzall.Howcanyoubeatit?
