Crouchy and Co... they’re a footie streaming dream team

L

imber up your chuckle muscles
and settle down for a new soccer
show from football’s funniest fella,
Peter Crouch.
The 6ft 7in former England and
Liverpool striker is joined by comedian
John Bishop and presenter Gabby Logan
for a weekly programme about the
most-watched sports league in the world.
There’ll be witty debate on the Premier
League’s weekend talking
points, plus big-name guests
telling hilarious stories and
playing daft games.
‘I’ve been in
football for 23
years and have
made some
friends in that
time,’ says Peter,
who retired last month.
‘It’s all about seeing
players in a different
light, with some humour.’

Fans of BBC Radio 5 live’s That Peter
Crouch Podcast can expect more of the
anecdotes and gossip that made it a hit.
‘I was so open on the podcast because
I didn’t think anyone would listen to it,’
confesses Peter. ‘But when it went as big
as it did, I couldn’t rein it back in!
‘I found that people really enjoyed the
insight I was giving, so Back of the Net will
be a similar sort of vibe.’
The show is part of Amazon Prime’s
move into sports programming,
which sees the streaming
service broadcasting
a number of top-flight
matches in December.
‘I was waiting for
Real Madrid to sign
me, but it never
happened,’ jokes
Peter. ‘So I’m hoping
for a smooth transition
from the substitute’s
bench to the studio sofa.’

Life is never
boring as a fan
of Leeds United
FC – just ask
celebrity
supporter
Russell Crowe.
The actor,
who considered
buying the
club in 2015,
narrates this
fascinating
docu-series.
It follows
The Whites’
attempt to win
promotion to
the Premier
League during
their 2018-
Championship
campaign.
And what a season it was...
The side’s new head coach
Marcelo Bielsa took his skilful squad
to the brink of glory.
But then the infamous ‘Spygate’
scandal interrupted their momentum
and they lost to Derby County in
the play-off semi-final.
‘There’s new hope at Leeds
United,’ says Russell. ‘This is the
story that plays out during one of the
most extraordinary seasons in this
remarkable club’s history.’
