ANIMAL RESCUE LIVE: SUPERVET
SPECIAL Mon to Fri 8pm C

T

here can be few more heartbreaking sights
in the world than a cute little bundle of fur,
staring out of a cage forlornly, wondering why
no one wants to be their ‘forever family’...
Right now, there are a staggering 250,000 animals
at UK rescue centres, all needing a home.
In the first series of this adorable, emotional and
funny Supervet spin-off, all
182 homeless creatures at
Newcastle Dog and Cat
Shelter were found loving
new owners after the
campaign week.
Now Animal Rescue
Live is back for a second
super-sized series, from
the Raystede Centre for
Animal Welfare in Lewes,
East Sussex.
Presenters Noel
Fitzpatrick, Steve Jones
and Kate Quilton are
taking the appeal nationwide – asking the British
public to take home pets, donate money and
volunteer at their local rescue centre.
‘A phenomenal army of people give
everything to look after these little
animals,’ says Kate, who also
presents Food Unwrapped.
‘We want to lift the lid on the
astonishing volunteers.
‘These centres are fully
functioning veterinary services,’
agrees Steve. ‘They’re the best
places to possibly get an animal,
because they’re full of love, skill
and trained individuals.’
The week-long call to action will
take viewers to the frontline of the
re-homing process, offer myth-busting
advice on unusual pet species, feature
films about creatures with remarkable
stories and see celebrity pet owners
offering their support.
‘Having an animal in your life
is an absolute joy and hugely
redemptive,’ says Supervet
star Noel. ‘They can be the
core of a family home – I’ve
seen that time and time again.
This kind of companionship is
important in the world.
‘They are not broken, they’re not
rejects or disposable. These are just animals
who’ve fallen on hard times for whatever reason.’
