Fiona Ericsson’s tips for creating a warm and welcoming front garden in tune with your home:

✚ Take your lead from the architecture when choosing plants:

“For a Federation-style house, a contemporary cottage,

urban tropical or Mediterranean plant palette works well”.

✚ Look to the existing site when selecting your materials

palette. “For example, this house is sandstone and red brick

so we used random-length sandstone pavers on the paths

and recycled bricks for the paths and edges. This ensures

the space isn’t too busy and feels like it flows well.”

✚ Create an area to meet and greet. “The space near the

front door should be spacious and welcoming.” #
