LordLichfieldwasinterviewedabouthisnewbook.Shown
here, his portraits of Jane Seymour and Anouska Hempel

THISweek’scovershotlookslikea stillfroma 1970s
DoctorWhoepisode,andanoddchoicetoillustrate
thecoverline‘World’sMostPhotogenicWomen’.It
turnsoutthephotowastakenbynoneotherthanLord
Lichfield,andthefeaturewasabouthislatestbook
calledTheMostBeautifulWomen. I wasat artcollegein
Plymouthwhentheexhibitioncameout,andthey
organiseda coachtriptoLondontogoandseeit. The
studentswereallveryexcited,butnotbyLichfield’s
paradeof beauty.Theyweredesperatetogetround
asquicklyaspossiblesotheycouldgotothiscool
restaurantthateveryonewastalkingaboutcalled...
McDonald’s.I’dneverheardof thembeforeand,like
someof Lichfield’spictures,I couldn’tunderstandwhat
allthefusswasabout.Thoughgiventhenumberof
aristocraticfriendsheincludedin hislist,hewasclearly
a master of what we now call ‘brown-nosing’.
