Spotlight on readers’ excellent images and how they captured them

Through the
Window
1 As Carolyne was
walking past a
greenhouse in
London’s Kew
Gardens, she noticed
the light was perfect
for this textured
abstract shot of
leaves, moss and dirt.
Fujifilm X-E1, 50mm,

ISO 100

The Swan Dance
2 This shot was
taken early in the
morning in the park.
To achieve a more
ethereal feel to the
movement in the
bird’s wings, Carolyne
used a low exposure.
The light provided a
beautiful backdrop.
Nikon D7000,

Carolyne Barber, London
Carolyne is a hospice
nurse and got hooked on
photography after she
accompanied a colleague on
a photographic day out. She
has always loved the outdoors and
now realises that having a camera gives
her a real sense of purpose, especially in
moody weather and when the light is
golden. As you can see from these
wonderful images, she loves to shoot
woodland landscapes, especially in the
autumn, so living near Epping Forest
certainly helps. She is passionate about
macro and also fi nds photography helps
her switch off from any work worries.
