(C), cut:

▫ 4—2^7 ⁄ 8 " squares

Use a pencil to mark a diagonal

line on wrong side of each A

print 2^7 ⁄ 8 " square and each B print

51 ⁄ 4 " square.

Layer a marked A print square

atop a C print 2^7 ⁄ 8 " square. Sew

together with two seams, stitching

(^1) ⁄ 4 " on each side of drawn line
(Diagram 1). Cut pair apart on drawn
line. Press open to make two small
triangle-squares. Each small triangle-
square should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make eight
small triangle-squares total.

Repeat Step 2 using marked

B print squares and A and C print

51 ⁄ 4 " squares to make two large

B/A triangle-squares and two large

B/C triangle-squares (Diagram 2).

Each large triangle-square should be

47 ⁄ 8 " square including seam allowances.

CUT FABRICS

Cut pieces in the following order.

From black check, cut:

▫ 25—3^1 ⁄ 2 " sashing squares

▫ Enough 2^1 ⁄ 2 "-wide bias strips to

total 285" in length for binding

(For details, see Cut Bias Strips,

page 100.)

From red bee print, cut:

▫ 40—3^1 ⁄ 2 × 121 ⁄ 2 " sashing rectangles

ASSEMBLE BLOCKS

Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam

allowances. Sew with right sides

together unless otherwise stated.

Press seams in directions indicated

by arrows on diagrams. If no direction

is specified, press seam toward darker

fabric.

Referring to Fabric Placement

Diagram, select one light print (A) and

two contrasting medium or dark prints

(B and C) for each of the 16 blocks. As

you cut pieces, label them accordingly.

The following instructions result

in one block. Repeat cutting and

assembly steps to make 16 blocks total.

From light print (A), cut:

▫ 1—5^1 ⁄ 4 " square

▫ 4—2^7 ⁄ 8 " squares

▫ 4—2^1 ⁄ 2 " squares

From first medium or dark print

(B), cut:

▫ 2—5^1 ⁄ 4 " squares

▫ 1—4^1 ⁄ 2 " square
