Our staff quilt tester joined pairs of

blocks 4 and 5 to replicate the star-

in-a-star design that is the center of

Gray Area. She bound her version

into a 20^1 ∕ 2 "-square table topper.

FABRICS are from the Fiddle Dee Dee

collection by Me & My Sister Designs for

Moda Fabrics (modafabrics.com).

Referring to Quilt Assembly
Diagram, page 34, for orientation
of pieces, sew together one each of
blocks 8, 9, 11, and 12 and two border
units to make a short pieced border
strip. Press seams open. The strip
should be 10^1 ∕ 2 × 80 1 ∕ 2 " including seam
allowances. Repeat to make a second
short pieced border strip.

Sew together one Block 7, one
Block 10, two each of blocks 8
and 9, and two border units to make a
long pieced border strip. Press seams
open. The strip should be 10^1 ∕ 2 × 100 1 ∕ 2 "
including seam allowances. Repeat
to make a second long pieced
border strip.

Sew short border strips to

opposite edges of quilt center.

Add long border strips to remaining

edges to complete quilt top. Press

seams toward border.
