PLAN FABRICS


Two blocks of four units each compose
this quilt. You will make seven A blocks
and five B blocks. If you wish to mix
and match prints as designer Heather
Black did, refer to the photo, opposite,
and the Quilt Assembly Diagram,
page 66, before cutting your fabrics.

CUT FABRICS
Cut pieces in the following order.
The patterns are on Pattern
Sheets 1 and 4. To make templates
of the patterns, see Make and Use
Templates, page 100. Be sure to
transfer dots marked on patterns to
templates, then to fabric pieces. These
dots are matching points, which are
used when joining pieces.

From assorted prints, cut:
▫ 5—10" squares
▫ 7—9" squares
▫ 12—8½" squares
▫ 5—7" squares
▫ 7—6½" squares
▫ 12—6" squares
From white tone-on-tone, cut:
▫ 5—9^1 ∕ 2 × 7 1 ∕ 2 " rectangles
▫ 12—1^1 ∕ 2 × 9 1 ∕ 2 " strips
▫ 12—1^1 ∕ 2 × 8 1 ∕ 2 " strips
▫ 7—^3 ∕ 4 × 6 3 ∕ 4 " strips
▫ 7—^3 ∕ 4 × 6 1 ∕ 2 " strips
From white-and-gray print, cut:
▫ 24—9^1 ∕ 2 " squares
▫ 19—9^1 ∕ 2 × 7 1 ∕ 2 " rectangles
From turquoise print, cut:
▫ 5 of Arc Pattern
From gray circles print, fussy-cut:
▫ 7—2^1 ∕ 2 ×42" strips for border
From black print, cut:
▫ 7—2^1 ∕ 2 ×42" binding strips

ASSEMBLE UNITS A1—A4


Measurements include^1 ∕ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward darker
fabric.

Unit A1

Gather an assorted print 6^1 ∕ 2 "
square, a white tone-on-tone

(^3) ∕ 4 × 6 1 ∕ 2 " strip, a white tone-on-tone
(^3) ∕ 4 × 6 3 ∕ 4 " strip, and a white-and-gray
print 9^1 ∕ 2 × 7 1 ∕ 2 " rectangle.

Referring to Diagram 1, sew
together print 6^1 ∕ 2 " square and
white tone-on-tone^3 ∕ 4 × 61 ∕ 2 " strip.
Add white tone-on-tone^3 ∕ 4 × 6 3 ∕ 4 " strip
to adjacent edge to make a pieced
6 3 ∕ 4 " square.

Referring to Diagram 2, align 6"
fill template with pieced corner
of Step 2 square. Trace curved edge.
Cut on traced line, discarding cutoff
corner, to make a quarter subunit.

Referring to Diagram 3, align
6" cutaway template with lower
right-hand corner of white-and-gray
print 9^1 ∕ 2 × 71 ∕ 2 " rectangle. Trace and cut
as before, discarding lower right-hand
corner, to make an arc subunit.

FINISHED QUILT: 58 1 ∕ 2 × 68 1 ∕ 2 "


FINISHED BLOCK: 18 ×16"
