Gather an assorted print 8^1 ∕ 2 "
square, a white tone-on-tone
11 ∕ 2 × 81 ∕ 2 "strip, a white tone-on-tone
11 ∕ 2 × 91 ∕ 2 "strip, and a white-and-gray
print 9^1 ∕ 2 " square.

Referring to Diagram 12, sew
together print 8^1 ∕ 2 " square and
white tone-on-tone 1^1 ∕ 2 × 81 ∕ 2 " strip.
Add white tone-on-tone 1^1 ∕ 2 × 91 ∕ 2 "
strip to adjacent edge to make a
pieced 9^1 ∕ 2 " square.

Referring to Diagram 13, align

9" fill template with pieced

corner of Step 2 square. Trace and

cut to make a quarter subunit.

Again referring to Diagram 13,

align 9" cutaway template with

upper left-hand corner of white-

and-gray print 9^1 ∕ 2 " square. Trace

and cut to make an arc subunit.

Layer arc subunit atop

quarter subunit. Align, pin,

and sew together to make Unit A4

(Diagram 14). The unit should

be 9^1 ∕ 2 " square including seam

allowances.

cut some extra

pieces and

practice before

starting the

project. Use as
