CUT FABRICS


Cut pieces in the following order.

From assorted dark prints, cut:
▫ 56—1^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 16—1^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
From assorted light prints, cut:
▫ 56—1^7 ⁄ 8 " squares
▫ 16—1^1 ⁄ 2 " squares
From red print, cut:
▫ 2—1^1 ⁄ 2 × 14 1 ⁄ 2 " sashing strips
▫ 6—1^1 ⁄ 2 × 4 1 ⁄ 2 " rectangles
From red dot, cut:
▫ 2—1^1 ⁄ 2 × 16 1 ⁄ 2 " border strips
▫ 2—1^1 ⁄ 2 × 14 1 ⁄ 2 " border strips
From black print, cut:
▫ 2—2^1 ⁄ 2 ×42" double-fold or
1 1 ⁄ 8 ×42" single-fold binding strips

ASSEMBLE 16-PATCH BLOCKS
Measurements include^1 ⁄ 4 " seam
allowances. Sew with right sides
together unless otherwise stated.
Press seams in directions indicated
by arrows on diagrams. If no direction
is specified, press seam toward
darker fabric.

Referring to Diagram 1, sew
together two dark print 1^1 ⁄ 2 "
squares and two light print 1^1 ⁄ 2 "
squares in pairs. Join pairs to make a
Four-Patch unit. The unit should be
2 1 ⁄ 2 " square including seam allowances.
Repeat to make eight Four-Patch
units total.

Referring to Diagram 2, sew
together four Four-Patch units
in pairs. Join pairs to make a 16-Patch
block. Repeat to make a second
16-Patch block.

Use a pencil to mark a diagonal
line on wrong side of each light
print 1^7 ⁄ 8 " square.

Layer a marked light print
square atop a dark print 1^7 ⁄ 8 "
square. Sew together with two seams,
stitching^1 ⁄ 4 " on each side of marked
line (Diagram 3). Cut pair apart on
drawn line; press open to make two
triangle-squares. Each triangle-
square should be 1^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make 112
triangle-squares total.

Referring to Diagram 4 for
orientation of triangles, sew
together four triangle-squares in pairs.
Join pairs to make a block unit. The
unit should be 2^1 ⁄ 2 " square including
seam allowances. Repeat to make
28 block units total.
