WellBeing – August 2019

(Grace) #1
I change the bed linen to bright
new sheets and colourful cushions,
write down my intentions for
the coming season and sit in the
garden with a good book and enjoy
the new growth of plants and
fl owers around me.
Juliet Madison
Feed the body with optimal
nutrition, feed the mind with
positive thoughts and spend time
with those I love.
Karen McMahon

I enjoy hot yoga and/or infrared
sauna to detoxify and build up my
immune system and book in for
plenty of massages. I also make
sure I have travel plans in my
future to look forward to.
Lisa Randall
I love to sit and take in the new
garden smells, swim in the ocean
and stand in the morning sun to
dry. I also make plans for new
projects and adventures.
Sharon Dance

Doing a huge house cleanup/
clean out, donating clothes and
other things I no longer need
to charity and planting some
gorgeous new herbs and fl owers
to brighten my house and kitchen!

What are your three
favourite rituals
for feeling renewed
this spring?

Set to soar
While on a plane setting off on a family
holiday to relax, reconnect and have fun,
your article “Set to Soar” couldn’t have
come at a better time. Parenting our
teenager has become at times stressful and
sad. Navigating this journey together with
electronics and the accessibility they have
is often challenging. Writer Carrol Baker’s
words were perfect and made me realise
that I (and my partner) need to change
how we react, talk and support our son in
these times. Listening to my son’s feelings
and choosing my words carefully is what
I took from the article. Being a good role
model in these sometimes-tense situations
is important for moving forward together
and for how my other children witness our
relationship. We, as parents, can put so
much pressure on ourselves to get it right
that we lose sight of being in the moment.
I’m looking forward to enjoying a nice holiday
with a different outlook.

Paradise awaits
I haven’t bought a magazine since
I was 16, having learnt that the images
and stories were highly Photoshopped
and unrealistic. I was looking in the
magazine section for cookbooks when
my eyes caught a glance of WellBeing
#177. The front cover was a beautiful,
picturesque ocean with hints of green
from the trees above. It looked like
paradise. I had a flick through and
thought, this will be my first magazine
purchase in over 12 years. To my
surprise, I couldn’t put the issue down;
the editor’s piece was so powerful. It
was about how attachment is restricting
and can cause you to suffer, but
connection is free and fulfilling. What
a powerful message! I can’t wait to
finish the rest of the magazine. Thank
you, WellBeing, for bringing a positive,
empowering, real and helpful magazine
into the world.

STAR LETTER!

Unsung heroes

I felt compelled to write in after reading your “Unsung Heroes” article about grandparents in WellBeing
#180. One of my greatest joys in life was introducing my fi rst grandchild to my own grandmother,
Oma. Sadly, Oma passed away soon after this at age 93. Oma was my inspiration and rock. A Dutch
immigrant, she raised six children in Australia on her own and went on to have 16 grandchildren, 20
great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Oma left a legacy for us all. She was hardworking,
passionate about life and family, a valued member of the community and volunteered up until the age
of 90. My fondest childhood memories are going on road trips with Oma, learning about her life in the
Netherlands and enjoying family gatherings at her home. Taking on the role of Oma to my two beautiful
grandchildren, aged fi ve and three, is the true meaning of life and I treasure every moment I spend with
them. I always want to be actively involved in their lives and help nurture them through life. I hope one
day I will be an inspiration to them, just as Oma was to me. Wendy Germon
