Hunger fund
‘will feed 1%’
GOVERNMENT funding
for children going hungry

charity says.
Meals & More said
government plans to
invest £9million a year will

but around 4.5 million
youngsters are in poverty.
Spokesman Peter
McGrath said: “Children
not getting the food they
need should shock us all.”
Last summer holiday
there was a 20% increase
in the need for foodbanks.
Pig hearts for
us in 3 years
PIG hearts could be given
to humans within three
years, according to a
leading transplant doctor.
Sir Terence English said
it could “transform” organ
transplants. He said a US
team will carry out the
world’s first pig-to-human
kidney transplant this year.
Sir Terence said: “If the
result is satisfactory with
porcine kidneys to
humans, it is likely that
hearts would be used with
good effects in humans
within a few years.”
