THEY SAID IT...
We were a threat. Aston Villa are a
very good team. They have quality
players but we managed to stay
ahead. We defended the last 10-15
minutes really well.
EDDIE HOWE
Aston Villa have lost 14 of their last
15 Premier League games, drawing
the other one and last winning a
top-flight game in February 2016
(2-0 v Norwich).
Bournemouth have registered three
wins in their last six Premier League
away games (D1 L2), as many as
they managed in their previous 14
on the road (L11).
Aston Villa have lost consecutive
home leagues games for the first
time since February 2017.
Bournemouth enjoyed only their
third-ever Premier League away win
against a newly promoted side in
their 12th such clash (D2 L7).
Josh King’s second minute penalty
for Bournemouth (1:40) is the
earliest spot kick to be scored in a
Premier League match since
Sergio Aguero against Newcastle
in February 2015 (1:12).

I couldn’t do much about that
one. I’d be surprised if too
many of the top, top keepers
could have done.”
Luiz’s goal was certainly a
thing of beauty and probably
came as some relief to the
£15million summer signing
from Manchester City
because it was his ‘dummy’
to Wilson which was
directly responsible for
Bournemouth’s second.
Newly-promoted Villa
look a side in transi-
tion after wholesale
changes to the
squad and can be
forgiven while they
find their feet. But
they haven’t got for-
ever to start picking up
points and need to make
sure an early blip doesn’t de-
velop into any kind of gap at
the bottom.
Villa midfielder Anwar El
Ghazi (above) said: “We were
very sloppy to start with and
the first two goals completely
changed the game. Had it
been 0-0 after 15 minutes it
would have been different.
“We are playing in the
Premier League now not the
Championship. Every mistake
will become a big one.”
Trezeguet. The shot-stopper
admitted that while he felt
sympathy for Heaton over his
early mistake, the bond
between goalkeepers only
stretches so far.
Ramsdale said: “I did feel
a bit for Tom when that
happened. It was his home
debut. After the game you can
feel sorry for him and have a
bit of sympathy but while it
was going on I was delighted.
“It’s a much better feeling
than my debut last week, to
get that win and feel what it’s
like to get a victory in the
Premier League is great.”
Billy Sharp’s late equaliser
put a dampener on Ramsdale’s
debut last week and Douglas
Luiz threatened to do the
same when he sent a
blistering shot
into the top
corner in the
71st minute.

to take in, add-

the game.
He saw opposite number
Tom Heaton blunder on his
home debut less than a
minute into the game when
he tripped Callum Wilson and
handed the Cherries a penalty.
Josh King converted that
with ease, then, 12 minutes
later, Heaton was picking the
ball out of his net again when
Harry Wilson’s shot from
distance took a deflection off
Tyrone Mings and flew into
the corner.
Ramsdale (with Howe,
below) then played his part
with two saves from John
McGinn – the second a
spectacular flying tip over –
and a block with his feet right
on half-time to thwart

on loan at Derby last season
that Liverpool could have
cashed in, but Klopp thinks he
has a big future at Anfield.
That does not surprise
Cherries’ boss Eddie
Howe, who said:
“Harry’s an
outstanding talent.
He has great
attributes.
“We’re very
grateful that they
trusted us with Harry
for the next stage of his
learning and development to try
to play in the Premier League.
“He’s settled in great. He
knows a few of the lads from the
Welsh team. He has unique
qualities that will serve him
really well.
“The lovely left foot playing
on the right is something that’s
suited us down the years so
we’re excited. He can get better
as he learns more about us and
we learn more about him.”

than just a contender to
snatch the No.1 shirt at
Bournemouth.
The 21-year-old keeper
spent part of the week

Aston Villa in front of their

Cherries boss Eddie Howe
says the shirt is Ramsdale’s to

Sheffield United
last week. He has
moved ahead of
experienced keepers
Asmir Begovic and
Artur Boruc and
says he knows his
fate is, quite literally,
