CAULEY WOODROW reckons
home comforts will be vital for
Barnsley’s history boys.
Daniel Stendel’s Championship
new boys are determined to prove
the pundits wrong after being
labelled certainties for the drop.
That’s despite extending their
impressive unbeaten sequence to
29 league games at Oakwell – a
run stretching 17 months.
Woodrow’s stunning first-half
volley (above) and Conor Chaplin’s
first goal since a summer arrival
from Coventry weren’t enough to
see off the dogged Addicks – but
still moved the Tykes closer to the
85-year-old club record of 36
unbeaten at home.
Woodrow said: “This has got to
be the place where we pick up the
majority of our points, because
away from home it’s tough as
we’ve already seen.
“Everyone knows how long we
are unbeaten here now and teams
are aware that we’ll make it as
tough as possible for them.”
Lyle Taylor’s penalty
maintained Charlton’s unbeaten
return to the second tier, after
on-loan Chelsea starlet Conor
Gallagher underlined his potential
in front of England Under-21 boss
Aidy Boothroyd by scoring for the
second successive game.
Chris Solly is set to miss the
game with Nottingham Forest on
Wednesday after suffering
concussion following a clash with
Barnsley’s Ben Williams.
Boss Lee Bowyer said: “Chris
was out cold before he hit the
floor, and we had to take him off.
He’ll be out for a couple of
weeks.” Solly’s replacement Deji
Oshilaja said: “Oakwell is a tough
place to come, so it’s another
great point.”

On-loan midfielder Jack wins over Leeds
faithful in his second spell at Elland Road
BY LINDSAY SUTTON
JACK HARRISON reckons he is on
course to win over the Leeds fans
at the second time of asking.
Certainly his boss Marcelo Bielsa
appreciates his contribution towards
United’s table-topping start to the
season, adding: “He’s improved a lot.
He’s now more able to show his skills.”
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder,
on loan from Manchester City, scored
in Leeds’ opening-day win at Bristol
City and helped them overcome
10-man Wigan.
Harrison was not the star of the
show – that honour belonged to two-
goal hitman Patrick Bamford – but he
said: “It’s my second year on loan at
Elland Road and I have tried to
improve my game for this season.
“It was great to hear the Leeds fans
singing my name. Sometimes the fans
have been critical, but I understand
that.
“This is a big
club and you
have to be
prepared to
work hard to get
appreciated.
“I keep my
head down and
apply myself. I
have settled in better this season. The
ups and downs of last year have made
me much better equipped.”
One of the “downs” was the morale-
shattering defeat by Wigan at Elland
Road last Good Friday, a body-blow
that triggered a drop in form that cost
Leeds promotion.
Amazingly, Wigan were again
reduced to 10 men at the DW Stadium
when Joe Williams was sent off for a
second yellow card after just 21
minutes.
Ironically, goal-hero Bamford also
scored against Wigan last time, only
for the comeback Latics to bust the
form book by winning 2-1.
This time around, Bamford scored
twice to put the game to bed.
Harrison (below), who emigrated to
America as a teenager and played with
New York City before returning to
England to sign for Manchester City,
admitted the spectre of another
reverse was at the back of their mind.
But he added: “We didn’t dwell on it.
We just kept going and took our
chances to make sure we won.”
Wigan boss Paul Cook accepted
Williams’ sending off was warranted
after a foul on Stuart Dallas, then one
on Bamford.
But Cook, who himself went in the
book for the second time this
season for lambasting the fourth
official and the referee, criticised
their “inconsistency”.
Bamford tapped home a first-
half rebound after Adam
Forshaw’s header had hit a post.
The striker bundled in his
second goal after the break to take
his season’s tally to three in as many
league games.
