Home Cinema Choice – September 2019

SEPTEMBER 2019 HOME CINEMA CHOICE

20 85 40

Think of Sennheiser, and you probably think of

headphones. Yet with its new Ambeo Soundbar (see

p36), the audio specialist has made

a startling move into the home cinema

arena. While other companies are expanding on the soundbar

form with wireless subwoofers and additional speakers,

Sennheiser has gone back to the beginning, but armed with

Dolby Atmos and its own potent proprietary processing.

It feels like a breakthrough product, but with a price tag that will

raise some eyebrows. The latter can't be said of Panasonic's

aff ordable TX-50GX800 TV (see p40), but in its own way this

4K set is ruffl ing some tech feathers too. Capable of both Dolby

Vision and HDR10+ playback, it's a stepping stone toward what

will hopefully be a format-neutral future. At the very least it

should give competitor brands still doggedly supporting only one

of those HDR standards something to think about.
