A
ttend any major runway
show these days and
you’re unlikely to see
a foot shod in anything other
than a fugly sneaker, a slick
tennis shoe or some kind of
ultra-futuristic runner. It’s
a look that’s reflected on the
street too, with trainers rapidly
replacing classic footwear styles
everywhere you look. Short
of hankering for the return
of heavy-duty derbies and
thick-soled monkstraps, we’ve
fully embraced the shift (why
wouldn’t you want to look as
cool as you feel comfortable,
after all?). Case in point: the
retro sneaker trend currently
running through fashion land.
Somewhere between Space
Jam-style basketball shoes
and Back To The Future-ready
sneaks, this season’s hottest
shoes should be worn with thick
white tube socks, acid-washed dad
jeans and sharp varsity jackets.
THE ONES THAT
HOLD COURT
This is classic Space Jam flex.
Wear with basketball shorts
and a pecs-bearing singlet (or,
failing that, team with a pair of
LV’s new wide-leg jeans and a
baseball shirt).
