T

rends often baffle
me. How does
everyone unanimously
agree that one year
we’ll all be wearing
leopard-print midiskirts, drinking
kombucha and asking their
hairdresser for balayage?
This summer, the beauty
industry powers that be

have inexplicably decided that
watermelon is the ingredient
du jour, with a regular stream of
new skin, body and make-up
launches hitting the shelves over
the last couple of months,
packaged in bright, cheery colours
and trailing a mouthwatering fruity
scent in their wake.
There are some claims about
the skincare benefits of
watermelon – hydration, gentle
exfoliation from its acids and a
good source of vitamins and
antioxidants – but to be honest,
it’s really all about the
fragrance or colour. Just
enjoy the juicy scent of
summer 2019 as you
slather these on.
