Horrific...
Ethan is out
of his depth

D

octor Ethan Hardy’s life is put
in serious danger this week as
he desperately tries to help the
victims of a terrorist attack.
The drama unfolds while Ethan is in
the middle of a driver-training refresher
course with HEMS (Helicopter Emergency
Medical Service), alongside his gruff
instructor ‘Big Al’, played by London’s
Burning’s Sam Callis.

Total carnage
‘Al’s an alpha male and
the polar opposite of
Ethan,’ says George
Rainsford, who plays
the ever-cautious
consultant. ‘But
there’s a mutual
respect between
them that grows when
they get a call saying
a lorry has purposely
driven into a busy market.
‘They’re first on the scene
and it’s total carnage with blood
and bodies everywhere. Ethan is out
of his comfort zone in this situation
but he has to step up.’

He tries to help a father called Andy
and his daughter, Jenny, who are trapped
under a van. But after freeing Andy, all
emergency personnel are told to evacuate
when sniffer dogs detect a bomb.
‘Ethan’s hesitant to leave Jenny, so
Big Al comes over to persuade
him and in that minute of
delaying, Ethan puts
himself and those
around him in danger,’
says George. ‘There’s
an explosion and all
hell breaks loose.’

Panic
Trapped under rubble,
Ethan has no idea who
has survived the blast...
‘He can barely move
and is covered in blood,
dust and dirt,’ says George.
‘He doesn’t know what state Al’s in
either, although it helps when he hears
Al cracking jokes as the emergency
services try desperately to free them
both. Ethan tries to stay calm but
gets more panicky as time goes on,
particularly when Al goes quiet...’
Who lives and who dies? With
the fate of Jenny, Big Al and Ethan
hanging in the balance, the attack
is sure to have huge ramifications
on everyone at the ED.
‘Ethan’s not had an easy run,
has he?’ says George. ‘He’s lost
two mums, various girlfriends, his
brother – and now this. And being
Casualty, it’s almost certainly not
going to get any easier for him!’ Q

Ethan puts his

and others’ lives

at risk during

a devastating

terror incident...

Who survives?

Faith Howells’
yellow mac is
from clothing
store Joules and
the wardrobe
department bought
loads for different scenes.
‘There are some dirty ones and some
pristine ones,’ says Eve Myles, who
plays Faith. ‘We call it “the crisis coat”!’

All the drawings on
Faith and Evan’s
fridge are by Matilda,
Eve’s eldest daughter
with her husband
Bradley Freegard
(who plays Evan). ‘I’m
like, “Take a close-up of
that, my daughter did it!”’ laughs Eve.

A natural brunette, Eve
went blonde to play Faith.
‘I’ve never been blonde
in my life!’ she says. ‘I’d
also never buy a yellow
mac. I look in my wardrobe
and all I see is black, but Faith
wears lovely bright colours.’

The exterior of
Faith’s home is a
house in Laugharne,
South Wales, which
has belonged to
Mary and Eynon
Hughes for over 30
years. ‘They have to put up with
hundreds of fans walking down the
lane in their yellow macs!’ says Eve.

The stunning Welsh
scenery is part of the
show’s appeal, and
this series includes
a new location –
Pendine Sands on the
south coast. ‘It’s famous
for drag racing because
it goes on and on,’ says Eve. ‘But the
light and the sunsets are remarkable.’
