Chat It’s Fate – September 2019

ottering around my living
room in Oxford, I almost
jumped out of my skin
when a male voice
boomed out of nowhere.
‘I am Hori, priest to Amum,’ it
said. ‘I lived at Thebes in the
18th Dynasty in the year 1500
BC. One of my titles is
“Guardian to the Doors of the
Sky to the Temple of Amum.”’
‘Right,’ I murmured, not quite
able to take in what was
happening. But the voice
wasn’t fi nished.
‘The Pharaoh is the Lord
Tuthmosis,’ it said. And then it
repeated it all over again!
‘Now you will never forget
my words,’ it said – and then it
was gone.
Well, it’s safe to say it was
correct – I certainly never have
forgotten those words spoken
to me by an invisible
3,500-year-old Egyptian spirit!
That was in 1985. For the
next fi ve years, I was on a
mission to fi nd out all I could
about the identity of this Hori.
I decided to start
my search at the
British Museum, as it
has a huge Ancient
Egyptian section full
of mummies,
treasure and other
fascinating artefacts.
Sure enough, on
one of trips to the
museum, I spotted
the name Hori while reading
the translation of a papyrus
scroll. On another trip, I found
a statue by a priest of Amum
from Thebes. It had been made
in the year 1500 BC and was
dedicated to his father, Teti.
I began having visions of
Hori himself, a tall, handsome
dark man. I also saw one

fi rst woman said.
‘Everything will
be fi ne.’
It was
extremely surreal – but of
course, she was right. I knew I
had to visit Egypt.
And so, a few months later, I
found myself on a boat trip
down the Nile. As we sailed, I
got talking to my tour guide
Mohamed, and ended up
confi ding in him about Hori.
When we arrived at the
Temple of Edfu, he took me to
one side.
‘When I tap you on your
shoulder just do as I tell you
and don’t say anything to
anyone else,’ he told me.
I felt a light touch on my
shoulder as we entered the
temple. I wandered off and
found myself in a silent
chamber lit only by a very
strong shaft of sunlight from an
opening in the roof.
I heard footsteps and was
about to move out of the way
when an unseen voice said,
‘Stand still.’ So I did! I could

beautiful woman,
a priestess, who
undoubtedly held
Hori’s heart. I saw
them strolling
together on the
banks of the Nile.
What was
really weird was
that I was
somehow there
too. I walked
beside Hori,
breathing the air
he breathed,
visiting the
shrines. He
knew I was
there – he’d
summoned me,
after all. I was
constantly aware that he held
tremendous power.

Strange knowledge
This had been going on for a
couple of years when I was
invited to North Wales to help
out at a mind, body and spirit
exhibition. On the second day,
I was approached by two
fair-haired ladies.
‘Are you Hori?’ one of them
asked me.
‘W-what?’ I
stammered.
‘We’ve been
searching everywhere
for you,’ she smiled.
‘We have a message
for you. You’re to visit
Egypt and look for an
underground tomb or
chamber. You’ve
visited it with Hori.’
‘Are you the cat woman?’ I
asked her. I didn’t know where
these words came from.
She smiled. ‘It’s not me, it’s
my friend here.’
I told the two women that I
wasn’t in any position to drop
everything and go to Egypt.
‘Don’t worry about that,’ the

feel the confusion of whoever
was behind me.
I decided then to go and fi nd
the others, and as I walked
back through the doorway, I
came across Mohammed.
He told me I’d been missing
for two hours! It felt like I’d
been gone for fi ve minutes.
Everyone had been looking for
me – but how had they not
seen me in the sunbeam?
On another occasion, I had a
vision of a young woman who
was being chased by what
looked like a mummy! Its eyes
were glowing green with some
kind of energy. Hori stood in
front of it and said, ‘You know I
am a High Priest of Amum and
you cannot touch me.’
The apparition vanished.
I’ve now visited Egypt three
times! I don’t know why Hori
chose me as his confi dante but
getting to know him has
certainly been an adventure!
