T

he road wound through
the beautiful Tuscan
countryside and into the
old Mediaeval town of Lucca.
‘Isn’t it pretty?’ my sister
sighed, looking out of the
window at the pastel-coloured
buildings and cobbled streets.
It was 1993, and I was on
holiday with my sister and her
family in Tuscany, Italy.
My sister and I have always

got on, but she’s tended to be a
bit sceptical about my spiritual
abilities. I’ve seen spirit for as
long as I can remember.

Old church
We passed through Lucca
on the way to the villa – and
as we drove, I realised I was
picturing an old church and
a churchyard on the way up
through the winding hills.
‘We’re going to pass an
old church and churchyard in

a minute,’ I predicted.
Sure enough, a
few minutes later,
we drove past
a church and
churchyard
that exactly
matched my
mental image.

But at this
time, I had a fear
of churches and
churchyards, possibly
because of a past-
life connection, so
I shuddered and
looked away, and
thought no more
of it.
A few days later,
we went on a day
trip to Florence,
famous for its incredible
cathedral with a vast stripy
‘duomo’ or dome designed by
the great architect
Brunelleschi.
It was a scorching
103 degrees

fahrenheit, the hottest day of the
year so far.
So it was most peculiar that I
suddenly found myself cold and
shaking walking down the road.
‘I can’t go any further,’ I
told my sister. ‘There’s a huge
cemetery up ahead.’
‘Don’t be silly,’ she scoff ed.
‘You can’t possibly know that.’
I forced myself to keep
walking, even though, despite
the blazing heat, it felt like I was
heading towards darkness. But I
plodded reluctantly along.
Of course, about 10 minutes
later, we came across a
cemetery. There were
signs for it in English
and Italian.
My sister stared at
me. ‘H-how did you
know?’ she said.
I smiled at her. ‘You
know these spiritual
abilities I keep talking about?
Well, this is them!’
She’s never queried it since!
