T
here’s a lot more to
interior design than
slapping on a lick of
paint. In this eight-part
series, hosted by Fearne
Cotton, design expert
Michelle Ogundehin
tests the skills of 10
wannabe designers.
Among those taking
part in the show are ex-
social worker Trish, 54,
antiques dealer Cassie,
30, restaurant manager
Jerome, 25, and retired
Army officer Verity, 34.
Contestants are given
different commercial
challenges each week,
and Michelle, joined by a
guest judge – including
Mary Portas, Laurence
Llewelyn-Bowen and
Jade Jagger – says
who stays and
who goes...
‘Everyone’s
competing to
win a major
contract
at one of
London’s
top hotels,’
explains
Fearne.
‘They
will be
tested across shops,
restaurants, hotels
and fancy warehouse
conversions. It’s a real
corker of a show!’
This week, the 10
competitors are divided
into teams and asked to
decorate two new show
homes. And it’s not long
before personalities, as
well as colours, clash!
Will Michelle and this
week’s guest judge,
Matthew Williamson, be
impressed by banana-
leaf wallpaper, a black
bedroom or a living
room with pink arches?
‘In my first flat, I did all
sorts of stuff that didn’t
turn out well – painting
stars on the kitchen
ceiling, painting the
bathroom piping
fluorescent pink!’
laughs Fearne, 37.
‘But our aspiring
designers are so
talented. There
are loads of
moments where
you just go,
“Wow!”’ Q
