Adopt

a pet!

In a week of

live shows,

Supervet Noel

hopes to find

new homes for

British animals

N

oel Fitzpatrick is
used to giving
our cats and dogs
life-saving surgery, but
this week the Supervet
wants to find them new
homes. For the second
year running, he teams
up with presenters Steve
Jones and Kate Quilton
to present a week of
live shows appealing
for viewers to take in
abandoned animals.

Love to give
‘We’re trying to debunk
the myth that animals
in shelters are somehow
throwaway,’ says Noel,
who is a pioneering
orthopaedic specialist.
‘We mustn’t see these
pets as rejects – they’ve
just fallen on hard times
and need a home.
‘People can get such
companionship from
these animals. Dogs and
cats don’t care what
race, religion or political
party you are – they
treat you just the same.’
Last year, the team
went to Newcastle Dog
& Cat Shelter, where
they helped to rehome
almost 200 animals. This

time, they’re at Raystede
Centre for Animal
Welfare in Sussex and
hope to send even more
pets to their forever
homes, including birds,
guinea pigs and goats!
Noel asks the public to
be open-minded when it
comes to finding a fluffy
friend. ‘It’s natural to
consider aesthetics, but
you might fall in love
with a cat who just looks
at you a certain way, or
a dog with a quirky
personality,’ he says.
Ahead of filming,
Noel met a very
special rescue dog,
a Staffie called
Cooper. ‘He works
for Staffordshire
Police and they call
him PD [Police Dog]
Cooper!’ says Noel.
‘He sniffs out drugs
and firearms, he’s
immensely talented

  • and he came from
    a shelter.’ Q

Chance of a LIFETIME
Millionaire Kate goes undercover in a school in Sheffield
to offer struggling kids a life-changing opportunity...
K
ate Stewart made
her first million aged
26 and her property
empire now turns over
£5million a year. But she
achieved all that without
passing a single exam!
So now she’s going
undercover as a teaching
assistant at Sheffield’s
Parkwood Academy
for this week’s The
Secret Teacher. Over
five weeks she’ll seek
out students with
untapped potential
and offer them an
opportunity that will
change their lives.
‘I’m looking for kids who
have entrepreneurial spark,’
says Kate, 36. ‘If I see
potential, I’ll back them
100 per cent. I’ll pay
for them to go to uni
and give them jobs
in my organisation.’
Straight away, Kate
notices 15-year-old
Molly, who has a
history of playing
truant but dreams
of owning
a salon.
‘She reminds me so much
of me,’ says Kate. ‘I was a
tearaway teenager as well.’
But Molly isn’t the only
student on Kate’s radar.
Zain, whose parents were
refugees from Iraq, is
also 15 and makes
money on the side
fixing computers.
But with two such
good candidates,
who will Kate help?
‘Everyone should
dream big,’ she says.
‘It’s the best feeling
to be able to help
in some
way.’ Q
