ONEPLUS’ 5G AMBITIONS


OnePlus showcased its first OnePlus 5G prototype smartphone at MWC (Mobile World Congress)


OnePlus unveiled its first smartphone powered by Qualcomm
Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform along with 5G as a powerful
ally in providing fast and smooth experience. The massive
improvement in speed, latency and network capacity opens up a
whole specturm of possibilities both in hardware and software.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau along with Qualcomm President Cristiano
R. Amon, and EE CEO Marc Allera, discussed the future and
possibilities of 5G.

OnePlus began research on 5G in 2016. A year later, in 2017, the
company started working with Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., on
OnePlus’ 5G device development. In August of 2018, the OnePlus
5G Project Team successfully established a 5G connection to
Qualcomm Technologies’ laboratory located in San Diego, in the
US. It has been working closely with Qualcomm for two years to
perfect the technology to meet OnePlus’ standards of ‘Fast and
Smooth’.

Pete Lau made the world’s first 5G tweet by connecting a
prototype device to a 5G Non-standalone Network, via a LTE b7 +
5G NR n78 air interface.

By ‘never settling’, OnePlus is constantly challenging itself to
deliver the best and only the best. That’s why 5G is of great
strategic importance to OnePlus.

5G launch by telcos in India is likely to happen from 2020
onwards. Out of all the players, Reliance Jio seems ready as their
existing infrastructure is majorly 5G compliant but Vodafone-Idea
and Airtel are likely to be the other key players who will lead the
